Taxonomy notes
split from M. rufus; may include the names castaneus É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1805 and holosericeus (J. A. Wagner, 1843) based on the localities of their type localities, which would take priority over fluminensis, but these names are tentatively treated under M. rufus here
