R. T. Hoser included Notomys and Mastacomys under Pseudomys as well as recognized (Ascopharynx, Thetomys, Gyomys) and named (Eekmys, Farkmys, Ohmys, Oimys, Ouchmys) a number of subgenera within; this arrangement is not followed here pending further investigation; he also described the species P. albapes, which is considered a synonym of P. oralis here
